El Consejo de Guardianes es una entidad primordial del sistema de la República Islámica de Irán. Está conformado por seis alfaquíes designados por el Líder Supremo y seis jurisconsultos nominados por el poder judicial que requieren la aprobación del Parlamento. Sus miembros son elegidos por seis años en dos tandas, de modo que cada tres años se renueva la mitad de esta asamblea. De momento, el Consejo cuenta con cinco alfaquíes, ya que el ayatolá Qolamreza Rezvani, uno de ellos, falleció hace unos meses.
Los deberes del Consejo de Guardianes son:
Revisar la legislación;
Interpretar la Constitución;
Supervisar las elecciones.
El Consejo se dedica a editar y ratificar las leyes aprobadas en el Parlamento y a asegurarse de que están en concordancia con la jurisprudencia islámica y la Constitución.
Además, se dedica a interpretar la Constitución, es decir, cuando hay un problema delicado en cuanto a las leyes, este Consejo da una interpretación constitucional adecuada y clara para resolver el asunto. Entre los deberes del Consejo, destaca la supervisión de todas las elecciones del país, excepto las municipales.
La Constitución de Irán ha encargado al Consejo de Guardianes la supervisión de todo el proceso electoral, de principio a fin, para que se realice de la mejor forma posible. Además, es el único órgano que puede decidir sobre la aprobación de los aspirantes para asumir un cargo como presidente o diputado del parlamento. Sin embargo, quienes no son aprobados tienen un plazo de 5 días para solicitar la revisión de sus casos. El Consejo atenderá sus demandas y pronunciará la decisión final.
Mientras tanto, Occidente acusa al Consejo de Guardianes de Irán de intervenir en el proceso electoral del país. No obstante, este Consejo tiene la misma función que otras entidades de muchas naciones, entre ellas la corte constitucional de Turquía, el Tribunal Constitucional de Alemania, el Congreso y el Senado de EEUU y el Consejo constitucional de Francia. Pero hay un matiz en las funciones de estas entidades que marca una diferencia con el Consejo de Guardianes de Irán en cuanto al proceso electoral, y reside en que en Irán darán respuesta directa a una persona pero las decisiones de las entidades anteriormente mencionadas serán dirigidas a los partidos.

Iran's Guardian Council.
The Guardian Council is a primary feature of the system of the Islamic Republic of Iran. It consists of six Alfaquis designated by the Supreme Leader and six jurists nominated by the judiciary which require the approval of Parliament. Its members are elected for six years in two batches , so that every three years, half of this assembly is renewed. So far , the Council has five Alfaquis since Ayatollah Qolamreza Rezvani , one of them died a few months ago.
The duties of the Guardian Council are:
Review legislation ;
Interpreting the Constitution;
Monitor the elections .
The Council is dedicated to editing and ratify laws passed in Parliament and ensure they are in accordance with Islamic law and the Constitution.
Also, is dedicated to interpreting the Constitution , ie , when there is a delicate issue as to the law, the Council gives an appropriate and clear to resolve the issue constitutional interpretation . The duties of the Council stresses the supervision of all elections in the country except municipal .
The Constitution of Iran has ordered the Guardian Council overseeing the entire electoral process , from beginning to end, that is done in the best way possible. He is also the only body that can decide on the approval of applicants for holding office as chairman or member of parliament . However, those who are not approved are within 5 days to request a review of their cases. The Council will address their demands and deliver the final decision.
Meanwhile , the West accuses Iran Guardian Council to intervene in the electoral process in the country . However, the Council has the same function as other institutions of many nations , including Turkey 's constitutional court , the German Constitutional Court , Congress and the U.S. Senate and the Constitutional Council of France. But there is a nuance in the functions of these entities makes a difference with the Guardian Council of Iran regarding the electoral process , and is that Iran will direct response to someone but the decisions of the institutions mentioned above will be directed to matches.
